The Plantation Allstars is a band that has played on Beale Street for years led by Vince Johnson an amazing singer and harp player that draws a crowd at every venue we play at on Beale. Wether it's an outside stage in Handy Park or The Rum Boogie Cafe. The band has 8 members, Vince Johnson harp and lead vocals, Alan Johnson on Bass, Joe Nesbitt on Lead guitar, Ronnie Bryant on Drums, Jeremy Powell on Keys, Steve Maylor on trumpet, Charles Campbell on Tenor Sax, Coleman Garret on Alto Sax and also we feature Chris Pitts on Lead guitar as well.
The music we play ranges from classic blues, RnB, Pop, Rock and Funk. Our style comes from the unique "Memphis Music&sound that comes from bands that live and play in Memphis. Some of the music we play can come from the hip in a Memphis traditional jam that comes from the soul, improvasation into original songs that we are in the process of recording. Of course as a Beale Street band that plays regularly on Beale we cover many of the classic blues that people come to Memphis from all over the world to hear. It may be a cover of a song but we make it our own.
The members of the Plantation Allstars come from all sorts of music backgrounds. Vince, his brother Alan, Charles Campbell and his brother Steve Maylor grew up and played the blues in Chicago before comming to Memphis many years ago, Joe, Ronnie, Jeremy and Coleman are life long Memphians who grew up around Beale street learning from the bluesmen who passed down their music to the next generation. People like Fred Sanders, BB King, Albert King, Marvin Cease, Bobby Bland, Al Green. So we have roots in Chicago and Memphis Blues as well as other genres of music. We will be representing Memphis in this years IBC starting this week on Beale Street.
Looking forward to comming to an event near you!!
